Corewell Health is expanding its services in Southwest Michigan with a series of investments, including new care centers and expanded clinical services. The health system aims to make care more accessible locally and strengthen the region’s healthcare workforce. According to a Corewell Health announcement, the projects will include new care centers, expanded clinical services, and housing for medical residents.
The health system did not disclose the cost of the projects or provide specific completion dates. However, officials stated that the investments are intended to address the community’s need for easier access to care.
Expanding Care Services
Corewell Health plans to build a care center in South Haven, offering urgent and primary care. The community currently lacks a local urgent care option, requiring residents to travel elsewhere for those services. Natalie Baggio, president of Corewell Health in Southwest Michigan, said, “We are hearing from communities that access to care needs to be closer to home and easier to reach.”
A new urgent care location is also planned for Royalton. In Bridgman, Corewell will expand a primary care practice to include walk-in care, physical therapy, and occupational therapy. The Dowagiac primary care practice will add capacity and walk-in services.
The organization also plans a new Niles care center offering multiple specialty services. These investments are part of Corewell Health’s efforts to support its future clinician pipeline and make care more accessible to the community.

Addressing Housing Needs
Corewell Health will expand apartments at Lookout Point in St. Joseph and add apartments in Niles to address housing needs for medical residents. This initiative is intended to help support the health system’s future workforce.
According to Corewell Health CFO Matt Cox, “Access to care should not depend on how far someone has to travel or how difficult it is to find the right place to go.” The health system’s investments in Southwest Michigan are designed to address these challenges and provide better care to the community.
Corewell Health operates 21 hospitals, more than 300 outpatient locations, and several post-acute facilities. The nonprofit health system employs more than 60,000 people and also operates Priority Health, a health plan serving more than 1.3 million members.
